In memory of Nikolay Andreyevich Dubrovsky

Nikolay Andreyevich Dubrovsky – President of the Russian Acoustical Society died of serious illness on April 16, 2008.

He was born in suburb of Moscow on April 25, 1933. After graduating from Moscow physics and technology institute in 1957 and to his decease Nikolay Andreyevich worked at Acoustical institute in Moscow, where he was initially as a PhD student (1957-1960). He studied then sound reception under supervision of academician N. Andreyev. Later Nikolay Andreyevich was a researcher (1960-1963), head of lab (1963-1976) and head of division of Acoustics institute (1976-1989), where he investigated dolphin sound system, signal processing and sound pattern recognition. He earned his PhD in 1963 and became doctor of science in physics and mathematics in 1980. Nikolay Andreyevich started his administrative career in 1989 as the first deputy director of N. Andreyev Acoustics institute and since 1990 to 2007 he was a director there. Nikolay Andreyevich deservedly accrued many honors. He was a winner of State Prize of USSR in 1983, he received sign of “Honored Scientist of Russian Federation”, many orders and medals. Nikolay Andreyevich founded the Russian acoustical society (RAS) in 1991 and was elected as the first RAS president and took up that post till his decease. He has done much to join RAS to EAA and to make tight relations with Acoustical society of America. Nikolay Andreyevich made great efforts to involve FSU acousticians into EAA structures.
